Democratic Left unwilling to join PASOK-ND coalition

Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis is not willing to participate in an eventual PASOK-New Democracy coalition government following the May 6 general elections.

?We wish the defeat of PASOK policies which led the country to its current state,? said Kouvelis speaking on Skai TV on Wednesday, adding that his party was after a gradual disengagement from the memorandum.

Kouvelis noted that further cuts in public spending expected in June could stem from curbing black economy operations, corruption and operational costs.

While arguing that the public sector ought to retain a stake in public utility companies, he added that at least 12 companies which are currently not providing any services should either merge or close their doors and their staff be transfered.
