HIV+ prostitutes appear in court to hear charges

Seventeen prostitutes arrested in Athens over the past few days for having unprotected sex with customers while HIV positive appeared in court on Friday to answer charges.

Eleven of them face charges of causing intentional grievous bodily harm, a felony, while the other five face the lesser charge of attempted bodily harm.

HIV campaigners gathered at Athens?s main court complex to protest the fact that authorities published photos of the prostitutes.

Hundreds of men have contacted the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEEL) since the women?s arrest expressing concern that they may have engaged in unprotected sex with them.
