Ex-defense minister and wife permitted to meet in jail

Former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos on Friday met his wife Viki Stamati in the grounds of the high-security Korydallos Prison where they are both being detained on money-laundering charges.

The meeting, which lasted for about half an hour according to sources, was approved following an appeal by the ex-minister to see his wife.

Stamati has been on hunger strike since Saturday in protest at her detention and has lodged an appeal to be put under house arrest so that she can be with her 5-year-old son.

According to sources, Stamati is continuing with her hunger strike, drinking only water.

Tsochatzopoulos?s daughter, Areti, is expected to appeal for a similar arrangement in the coming days.
