SYRIZA chief to meet ND, PASOK, Independent Greeks counterparts
The head of SYRIZA, Coalition of the Radical Left, Alexis Tsipras is set to meet his PASOK, New Democracy and Independent Greeks counterparts on Wednesday afternoon, as part of exploratory talks aimed at forming a new government.
Tsipras?s Wednesday afternoon agenda includes successive meetings with Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos at 5 p.m., PASOK?s Evangelos Venizelos at 6 p.m. and New Democracy?s Antonis Samaras at 7 p.m.
According to reports, the SYRIZA chief is to send a letter to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi arguing that the Greek elections result, which saw PASOK and New Democracy receive 32 percent of the vote, means that the terms of the EU-IMF bailout no longer apply.
Tsipras?s chances of forming a government are slim and Greece is likely to hold a new round of general elections in June.
