Greek beaches pick up 394 Blue Flags
Greek beaches have been awarded 394 Blue Flags for excellent water quality.
Nine marinas in Greece also won the awards, meaning the country ranked second among the 41 countries that take part in the Blue Flag program, which is managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
The flags, which are awarded annually, are based on a number of criteria, including water quality, environmental management, services and safety.
Lasithi on Crete had the most Blue Flags, with 40, followed by Halkidiki, which was awarded 35.
