Metro staff plan rolling 24-hour strikes from mid-June

Employees on the Athens metro announced on Wednesday that they were planning rolling 24-hour strikes from mid-June once schools have finished with university entrance examinations but before general elections scheduled for June 17.

In a written statement, the workers explained that they were protesting cuts to their salaries over the past two years and invoked a recent court decision vindicating their claim that their wages should not have been cut as the company that operates the metro, AMEL, is not part of the state sector.
