Police warn of e-mail fraud after lawyer scammed
Greek police are working with their Spanish counterparts to break a ring of fraudsters believed to have swindled 415,000 euros from a 46-year-old Greek lawyer by convincing her that she had inherited 12.5 million dollars but needed to make some initial deposits to secure the sum.
Members of the electronic crime squad have been in contact with Spanish officers since March, when an immigrant believed to be a ring member was arrested in Madrid.
The Greek police have warned the public not to respond to e-mails promising large sums through inheritance, such as the one received by the 46-year-old lawyer, and to report any such messages by telephoning 11012.
