Truck owner arrested for drug smuggling
Officers of the anti-narcotics unit in the northwestern port of Igoumenitsa on Friday arrested a 45-year-old Greek truck owner after an inspection of his vehicle turned up 750 kilograms of cannabis.
Officers also arrested a 23-year-old Albanian alleged to have helped smuggle the drugs into Greece and were seeking a 35-year-old Greek believed to be the head of the cross-border drug ring.
Since the beginning of the year, some 3.7 tons of cannabis have been confiscated in the broader Epirus region and 156 people detained.
