Prince Charles keeps busy on Mount Athos

Prince Charles yesterday inaugurated the restored Church of Aghios Evdokimos at the Vatopedi Monastery on Mt Athos, where he has been staying for the past few days. The church was restored with the support of the British group «Friends of Mt Athos» which the prince supports. The group is also opening footpaths on the mountain with the participation of British volunteers. Britain’s Prince Charles has become a regular visitor to the all-male monastic community since his first stay four years ago, which was at the urging of Cypriot shipowners in London. The monastery’s abbot told Kathimerini the prince spent his time meditating and painting. Last year some of his paintings of the monastery were auctioned in London and the proceeds donated to the monastery. On Tuesday, he visited the Simonos Petra Monastery to see an environmentally friendly system for producing electricity.
