Fires southeast of Athens and on Kythnos continue to burn
Firefighters are continuing to battle with large wildfires in southeastern Attica and on the island of Kythnos.
The fires broke out on Saturday but continued to burn on Sunday, fanned by gale force winds.
A blaze that began in Keratea, southeast of Athens has spread to the area of Aghios Konstantinos near Lavrio. The areas of Lavreotiki, Palaio Fokaia, Legraina, Kamariza and Thymari have also been affected.
At least a dozen homes were burned and one firefighter injures as the blaze advanced. Three men have been arrested on charges of arson through negligence. They are believe to have been carrying out work that produced sparks which may have started the blaze.
The high winds have led to a number of ferry and hydrofoil crossings being cancelled. There is no service to the Cyclades from the port of Rafina, while vessels for Kea and Kythnos are not leaving from Lavrio.
