Prime minister to undergo eye surgery [update]

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who was voted into power in cash-strapped Greece on Sunday, will have to undergo eye surgery on Saturday.

The premier, who has spent the past four days trying to cobble together a unity government, suffered from retinal detachment early on Friday and had to be rushed to hospital.

The director of Attiko Hospital’s eye clinic said that the procedure will take place on Saturday morning.

Samaras returned to Maximos Mansion after consulting with the doctor.
