Microsoft relieved there were no injuries in arson attack [Update]

Microsoft?s Athens branch expressed relief that its staff suffered no injuries on Wednesday after armed assailants set fire to its offices in the northern suburb of Maroussi early in the morning.

Police said the attack was reminiscent of an arson hit on the main tax office in Maroussi on May 14, noting that similar explosives and tactics had been used. That attack was claimed on the Internet by a group calling itself ?some of the 34.9 percent,? a reference to the estimated rate of abstention in the May 6 election.

?Our priority is our people and we are grateful that there were no injuries and all the employees are safe,? the firm said in a statement after the attack, which caused serious damage.

Authorities said three armed men threatened the night guard and drove a stolen truck through the entrance before dousing the floor with flammable liquid and lighting it. Police found containers of flammable liquid and gas canisters in the truck.

Counterterrorism squad officers were assigned to the case.
