Man, 45, dies after Acropolis plunge [UPDATE]

A 45-year-old man died of massive head injuries on Thursday a few hours after plunging from the Acropolis Hill, the site of the Parthenon.

The unnmamed man fell on the marble bleachers of the ancient Theater of Dionysus, on the southern slopes of the capital’s sacred rock.

No suicide note was found but the death is not being treated as an accident.

There has been a sharp spike in suicides in recent months, most attributed to deepening financial problems stemming from the country’s economic crisis.
