Church soup kitchens to run through summer

The soup kitchens being run by the Church of Greece will continue to operate throughout the summer, Aris Konidaris, the head of the Archbishopric’s office told Skai radio on Friday, rebuffing rumors that the Church would scale back its provision of free meals for the homeless and needy.

“Any citizen that needs food will not be left hungry, not over the summer or at any other time,» Konidaris said.

On Thursday Archbishop Ieronymos inaugurated the church charity’s third social grocery, in Dafni, southeastern Athens, which is to provide food for 200 families every week.
