No sackings, says civil servants’ union chief
The head of the ADEDY civil servants? union, Costas Tsikrikas (left), said on Wednesday that he received reassurances from Administrative Reform Minister Antonis Manitakis (right) that no civil servants would be fired over the next few years.
Greece has to reduce the number of people employed in the public sector by more than 50,000 over the next three years but the government wants to do this through controlling the number of new hires to replace retiring civil servants.
Tsikrikas said the minister told him that civil servants would be transferred to new departments when some state organizations are shut down.
