Minister plays down talk of Greece being forced out of Schengen zone

Greece will resist any suggestions that it should be thrown out of Europe?s Schengen zone, where there are no internal border controls, Citizens? Protection Minister Nikos Dendias said on Wednesday after meeting officials in Brussels.

?At the moment, there is no question of Greece being excluded from the Schengen Area,? said Dendias.

When pressed on whether the issue might come up for discussion in the future, the minister admitted that press reports on the subject served as an ?informal warning? for Greece.

?We will do all we can to prevent the unlikely event of someone with bad intentions putting forward such an issue,? he said.

Dendias said he briefed European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom about the steps Greece is taking to strengthen its borders and to create migrant reception centers.
