Labor minister to hold Halyvourgia talks

Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis is to meet with workers at the Halyvourgia steel plant in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, who have been on strike for nine months.

On Wednesday, the management of the plant said that it would appeal to the ministry to carry out mass layoffs and close down the factory — which has been operating for over 500 years — unless the employees return to work.

The staff walked off the job last winter following massive pay cuts.
