German MP proposes subsidy for Greek holidays

A German lawmaker has suggested giving holidaymakers a subsidy to visit Greece and other debt-wracked countries in Southern Europe.

Erwin Lotter of the Free Democrats had reportedly proposed issuing a government-sponsored holiday voucher to boost Southern European economies while cheering citizens in Germany, where a lack of sunshine is said to have weighed on mood levels.

The idea received broad media coverage in Germany but it is unclear how it will be received in Germany?s parliament, currently in its summer recess.
