Parliament spends millions on buildings
The Hellenic Parliament has spent no less than 30 million euros over the last eight years on rental of buildings in Athens city center, as Kathimerini reveals on Saturday, while the total spending of the Greek house of representatives in that period has come to 83 million euros.
Last year alone the Parliament spent 8.6 million euros on leasing and maintenance of buildings, while for this year the budget for this expenditure is estimated at 9.3 million euros.
Although parliamentary deputies get an office complete with all the necessary equipment, they also get an office allowance that this year will add up to a total of 8 million euros.
Several former deputies and European Parliament deputies also enjoy the comfort of an office at the parliament?s buildings, as do four former prime ministers, five former speakers of the House and the head of a former parliamentary party.
