NGOs for children in need threatened by economic woes

An umbrella group called Together for Children, which represents dozens of nongovernmental organizations that offer support and treatment to children with physical and mental disabilities and psychological problems, warned on Monday that the bodies would be unable to operate as of September unless the state covers their basic funding needs.

At many of the 32 organizations, which cater for more than 15,000 children, staff have not been paid for months while in others the parents or guardians of the patients have pitched in to cover some of the costs.
