Minister calls for better fire prevention
The number of wildfires this year compared to last has risen by about a fifth, Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias told Parliament on Thursday. He described the increases as ?annoying and dangerous.?
Dendias called on Greece to change its approach to combating wildfires and focus more attention on fire prevention.
?Putting out fires is not enough,? he said. ?We need to take a new look at preventing fires through collective participation, especially communities,? he said.
More than 35 firefighters were on Thursday combating a blaze in the Aghioi Pantes area of Zakynthos island in the Ionian Sea.
