Falsely claimed benefits on Chios
Greece?s social security funds are set to save some 100 million euros per year after a series of checks led to the discovery that 60 percent of benefits for blind people on the island of Chios had been falsely claimed. The announcement was made by social security fund IKA following a series of inspections on the island.
In a similar case, a Thessaloniki man is set to face charges for claiming false blindness benefits. According to Skai reports, the man had collected 25,000 euros in benefits in the last six years.
In April former Labor Minister Giorgos Koutroumanis had presented a report regarding the discovery of 200,000 cases of false claimants around the country in the past two years.
Meanwhile, IKA inspections are set to continue in other parts of Greece.
