What made you decide to protect bears? It began when I got the idea of revitalizing Nymphaio (site of Arcturus’s bear sanctury on Mount Verno). The only way was through tourism. By chance, at that time we were collaborating with an English organization, Liberty, whose members managed to free a dancing bear. Our quest to promote the environment brought us to the bears. But the other reason was that the bear is at the top of the food chain for Greek fauna. Every attempt to save it helps animals further down the forest food chain. Besides, it is the most lovable wild animal; it’s no coincidence that children sleep with their teddy bears.
