Schools may not be able to afford winter heating
The primary school teachers? federation (DOE) warned on Monday that a lack of state funding could leave many schools unable to pay their heating bills this winter.
DOE said that the first installment of public money the schools received this year had been slashed by a third.
They said the second installment, due in April, has yet to be paid but that if it is also reduced, there will be a shortfall.
?It is certain that schools will be unable to buy the heating oil they need for the winter,? DOE said.
It also criticized the government?s hiring of just 200 teachers this year even though, according to the union, some 5,000 have retired.
