Police deny that Turk soldiers took aim at border guards

The Greek police vehemently denied claims by the far-right Golden Dawn party that Turkish soldiers drew their guns on Greek border guards who were trying to prevent a group of illegal immigrants crossing into Greece this week.

?No such incident has been reported by our officers,? a police spokesman told Kathimerini on Friday.

Greece has recently beefed up its police presence on the Evros border with Turkey.

It sent more than 1,800 extra border guards to the area in a bid to stem the flow of migrants crossing into Greece from Turkey.

?After the fuss that was caused, I spoke to a lot of colleagues and nobody has heard of anything related to this incident,? a member of the border guards? union told Kathimerini.
