University evaluation will be completed, says ministry

The Education Ministry on Saturday played down concerns expressed by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (ADIP), which said that the external evaluation of Greek universities could not be completed because of staff shortages.

ADIP said on Friday that evaluation, necessary for EU funding among other things, had only been carried out at 171 of 520 university departments.

A staff of 15 people was appointed to man the agency but four employees have been recalled to their original civil service jobs and another three are due to return by the end of the year.

However, the Education Ministry said that a new head would be appointed to ADIP by the end of the month and that the funds for the agency to carry out its work had been secured.
