Justice minister mulling e-tags for prisoners on furlough
Justice Minister Antonis Roupakiotis said on Wednesday that he is considering introducing the electronic tag system for prison inmates who are allowed to leave on furlough.
The ministry is examining several measures after multiple murderer Michalis Makriyiannis (photo) failed to return to Larissa Prison from a five-day release earlier this week.
Roupakiotis said that he is also considering allowing community service as an alternative to jail time in a bid to ease overcrowding in prisons.
