Migrant dead in street fight
A brawl between rival groups of immigrants late on Friday in the rundown central Athens district of Aghios Panteleimonas resulted in the fatal injury of one of those involved. The man, whose ethnic origin was not revealed, was transfered to the nearest hospital after being wounded by a rival wielding a blunt weapon, according to police.
It was unclear what had sparked the dispute but brawls between migrants in the area, which has a large population of foreign nationals — particularly from Asian countries — are frequent and have fuelled a backlash by local residents.
