Payment of debts to pharmacists under way

Alternate Health Minister Salmas said on Thursday that the government would make public a plan for the payment of outstanding debts to pharmacists within the next two days.

Pharmacists have stopped supplying medicines on credit in protest at the failure by the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) to make good on arrears.

“Today the May debts to pharmacists were paid. Tomorrow, or the day after, we will present a comprehensive payment plan so that pharmacists know exactly what they are to receive from EOPYY until the end of December,» Salmas said. «This is an honest and honorable stance, in view of the trials the country is undergoing,» the minister added.

Salmas’ comments came in response to a question tabled in Parliament by an MP of the right-wing anti-bailout party Independent Greeks, Pavlos Haikalis.
