Reichenbach praises Greek reform drive
The head of the EU taskforce helping to rebuild Greece’s economy on Tuesday praised the country’s conservative-led coalition for pushing with much-needed structural reforms.
?Although this government has been in power for less than one hundred days, the progress that has been achieved in many different areas is quite impressive,? Horst Reichenbach said in comments translated from the Greek after a meeting with Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis.
The two men discussed issues related to the National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA), the liberalization of closed professions, concessions for large infrastructure projects, and measures to bring down prices for consumers.
In comments made to the press after the meeting, Hatzidakis said the government is determined to see through a number of long-stalled reforms that promise to spur growth in the recession-hit country.
?We only have a few months to carry out what has not been done for many years,? said Hatzidakis, adding that the government is trying to wed the cost-cutting measures demanded by the nation’s foreign creditors with growth-inducing policies.
?Our peers and the EU want the program to succeed because this would also be their success. But it would be an even greater success for us and our families,? he said.
