Campaign launched to tackle illegal street trading in Athens

Authorities in Athens are launching daily operations from Wednesday to combat illegal street trading.

The move is part of an overall plan to tackle the sale on the capital?s sidewalks of knock-off goods and other items without licenses.

The government is set to pass a new law on street trading and opened on Tuesday a ?coordination center? in Kaningos Saqure. Seven state bodies and four professional groups are working together as part of the initiative to stop illegal trading.

Consumers are also being made aware they can call 1520 to register complaints.
