Two detained over migrant killing

A ring of Afghan traffickers is suspected to be behind the suspected murder of an unidentified migrant whose remains were discovered in an apartment in central Athens on September 19, the homicide department of the Athens police said Friday.

Officers said they had detained two Afghans, aged 21 and 22, in connection with the killing and were seeking two of their compatriots, aged 29 and 33.

The racket is believed to have been smuggling would-be migrants into Greece and holding them hostage while blackmailing their relatives into paying ransom sums for their release.

The dead migrant found in the apartment is believed to have been one of their victims. He had been tied up with chains and duct tape.
