Minister rules out troika demands for mass sackings
Administrative Reform Minister Antonis Manitakis insisted Friday that the evaluation of civil servants would not lead to sackings, although he admitted that public sector employees would be sacked for disciplinary offenses.
Speaking at an event in Athens Friday, Manitakis said that the troika?s insistence on the immediate firing of thousands of civil servants from a work force of about 700,000 people would undermine the effort to reform Greece?s public administration.
Manitakis said those who would lose their jobs are employees who are deemed ?unfit? and those who have committed serious disciplinary offenses.
