Evaluation for schoolteachers

A panel of experts appointed by the government to set up an evaluation process for schoolteachers is due to deliver its proposals next week, the government said Tuesday.

?We will publish the report as soon as it is ready, along with the content of the dialogue that we have had with the teaching community,? said Education Ministry special secretary Sotiris Glavas. ?We will then have a discussion with unions and other bodies in the education sector before the ministry submits its final proposal.?

Greece?s first evaluation process for teaches will either be a standard procedure to take place every year, a voluntary scheme to be held annually, or will be confined to educators who are performing poorly, sources said.

Meanwhile, Kathimerini understands that lessons are not taking place at about 90 schools around the country due to sit-in protests by pupils over a range of grievances. About 60 of those schools are in Attica.
