Pickpocket caught in metro tunnel after chase

Security guards on the Athens metro spent 15 minutes chasing a suspected pickpocket through the tunnel between Syntagma and Acropolis metro stations on Thursday.

The suspect was apprehended but the electricity on the line had been shut down as a precaution, which caused overcrowding at stations, where passengers gathered waiting for trains to depart.

The incident occurred at about 1.15 p.m., when the suspect was chased along the platform after passengers noticed him trying to steal a wallet.

He then jumped on the track and ran down the tunnel to avoid being caught.
