Conservative MP expelled from ND’s parliamentary group
Conservative lawmaker Nikos Stavrogiannis has been expelled from New Democracy’s parliamentary group following comments he made on Sunday that he would not back the new austerity measures.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has asked that the Fthiotida MP be also stripped of his party membership.
In an interview with Real News on Sunday, Stavrogiannis said that he could not, in good conscience, vote for for an ?unfair? and ?ineffective? package that would hurt the poorest families.
Greece is set to seal an agreement with the troika of foreign lenders this week on a 13.5-billion-euro austerity package. The package contains about 11.5 billion euros in spending cuts and another 2 billion in tax hikes.
