Hard data back inflation

What kind of experiments did WMAP conduct? The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe, carrying high-precision instruments, managed to measure the anisotropies (fluctuations, that is) of microwaves, which were described by the inflation theory. The instruments were able to describe microscopic fluctuations, to a huge degree of accuracy. It is the first time in cosmology that we have obtained such accurate experimental data which confirm a whole school of thought. For the first time, we can scientifically lay on the table theories on the beginning and evolution of the universe. I think that this is one of the biggest discoveries in cosmology in the past 50 years. Did it bring up anything new? It confirmed various theories. If you had asked me about these things four months ago, I would have still believed in the theory, but it would have been theoretical. Now we have the certainty of hard facts.
