President affirms strong country ties after meeting with Serb counterpart

President Karolos Papoulias (photo) on Friday emphasized the enduring strength of the ties between Athens and Belgrade following a meeting in the Greek capital with his Serbian counterpart Tomislav Nikolic and called for solidarity to safeguard regional stability as Greece recovers from its debt crisis.

?Geopolitical balances in the broader region are fragile and Greece and Serbia should display solidarity when it comes to issues of national importance,? Papoulias said.

Nikolic described Greeks as ?a capable people who know how to make sacrifices and who will survive the crisis.?
