Greek umbrella unions GSEE and ADEDY are participating on Wednesday in a pan-European strike, in which 40 unions in 23 European countries are protesting austerity policies.

The Greek private and public sector unions have called a three-hour stoppage starting at noon, while a rally was being organized on Klafthmonos Square at 1 p.m.

Public transport services were scheduled to run on schedule on Wednesday, with the exception of the Syntagma Square metro station which was expected to close its doors at noon.
