House to debate probe into bailout
SYRIZA’s request for Parliament to hold an inquiry into the decisions that led to Greece appealing to the eurozone and International Monetary Fund for a bailout is due to be debated on November 30, Parliamentary Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis said on Thursday.
The leftists want a House committee to investigate whether any politicians, including ex-Prime Minister George Papandreou, should face charges in connection to the decisions they took with regard to the Greek economy in 2009 and 2010.
For SYRIZA’s proposal to pass, it would need the support of at least 120 MPs, which could be obtained if the opposition parties combine forces. The coalition started with 179 deputies but is currently down to 167.
