IKA employees to strike on Friday over decision to remove 500 colleagues

Employees at Greece’s main social security fund, IKA, are to hold a 24-hour strike on Friday, December 7.

The workers’ union decided on Tuesday to protest a court decision that ruled illegal a decision to transfer 500 employees who had passed exams for jobs at ATEbank, which recently passed from state control to Piraeus Bank, to work at IKA.

The decision to give the successful applicants jobs at the fund was deemed unconstitutional.

The union (POSE-IKA) says that the fund will not be able to function properly if 500 employees lose their jobs in one go.
