Court upholds prison term in Psomiadis sentence
Former Central Macedonia Governor Panayiotis Psomiadis said Thursday that he would accept a Supreme Court ruling to uphold the 2011 judgment that handed him a 12-month jail sentence and led to him losing his position. Psomiadis was sentenced after reducing a fine for a local gas station that sold adulterated fuel. “I respect the ruling of the Greek justice system but I will continue the fight to clear my name,” said Psomiadis. He added that he had no intention of abandoning his political career. “People’s love over the last 32 years has given me the power to go on. For the homeland, for Orthdoxy, for our children, for the diaspora and for our Macedonia.”
