SDOE sees clerics’ accounts in order

Investigations into clerics’ bank accounts have not turned up any suspicious cases where deposits do not tally with income, the head of the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE), Stelios Stasinopoulos, has told Archbishop Ieronymos, according to sources.

In a letter to the head of the Church, the SDOE chief reportedly said that his agency had found no evidence of “unjustifiable incomes” in its inspection of priests’ bank accounts.

The probe began last week after Ieronymos reportedly asked SDOE officials for clarification about the accounts of certain clerics following complaints by a number of priests.

According to sources, the main topic of discussion at yesterday’s session of the Holy Synod was the existence of three lists said to feature the names of bishops with large bank deposits.
