Archbishop against plan for Sunday opening for stores
Archbishop Ieronymos, the head of the Church of Greece, on Tuesday joined the debate over whether retail stores should open on Sunday.
The government has put to public consultation a draft law that would allow some stores to open on Sundays.
Ieronymos expressed concern about the plans.
“We are constantly focused on numbers and we forget our souls,” said Ieronymos.
“When will traders see their children, when will they see their families, when will they rest and gather strength?” he told journalists after holding a meeting with Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis to discuss the Church’s social work.
