Greece is back on its feet, Grexit is ‘dead,’ says PM after Eurogroup decision
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras welcomed a decision by eurozone finance ministers on Thursday to immediately disburse 34.3 billion euros in bailout funds for Greece.
“Greece’s is back on its feet. The sacrifices of the Greek people did not go to waste,” Samaras said in Brussels ahead of a European People’s Party meeting.
“Today is not only a new day for Greece, it is indeed a new day for Europe,” said Samaras, who leads the country’s coalition government, adding that the issue of a Greek eurozone exit is now dead.
Samaras and his Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras are due to hold a news conference in Brussels on Thursday afternoon to assess the Eurogroup’s decision.
