Greek Orthodox Church rejects Albanian census
The Greek Orthodox Church of Albania on Tuesday rejected an official census in the Balkan country suggesting that ethnic Greeks represent just 6.75 percent of the overall population.
The Church instead claims that the figure is at 24 percent, slightly above that of previous censuses that put the percentage at 20.7 percent in 1942 and 22.3 percent in 1927.
The church said the ostensible drop was recorded because this year’s survey did not make it mandatory for respondents to state their religion.
