Two held on suspicion of conning elderly out of thousands
Police in Thessaloniki were on Thursday questioning two men, aged 53 and 39, suspected of defrauding at least 32 elderly people in the northern port city and Athens out of as much as 150,000 euros.
Victims told officer that a man – believed to be the elder of the two – had called them late at night while posing as an emergency room doctor treating a close relative for a serious health problem and demanding money.
A third suspect, aged 26, is also being sought.
