Volos elementary school latest to be targeted by fuel thieves

Authorities in the city of Volos, central Greece, on Tuesday were seeking the thieves who removed around a ton of heating oil from the boiler room of a local elementary school over the weekend.

The theft followed similar incidents in recent weeks in schools on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, in the northern city of Didymoteicho and in the Cretan port of Iraklio and comes amid dwindling budgets for heating schools that have resulted in many parents opting to keep their children at home, particularly in northern Greece, where temperatures tend to be lower.
