Samaras to meet Merkel for talks during German trip
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is due in Germany on Monday ahead of a meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday.
Samaras is due to appear as a keynote speaker at a conference organized by Die Welt newspaper on Monday. In the evening he will take part in a dinner alongside European Central Bank president Mario Draghi.
On Tuesday, the Greek premier will meet former German Vice Chancellor Hans-Dietrich Genscher before holding talks with the country’s current leader.
Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said there would be an informal exchange of opinions during the meeting.
“It is natural that we should take the opportunity to underline once again the progress that has been made in Greece in terms of structural reforms,” Seibert added.
Samaras is due back in Athens on Tuesday afternoon.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias is also due in Germany on Monday to meet his counterpart Joachim Gauck.
