UN’s Nimetz returns for FYROM talks
Matthew Nimetz, the United Nations mediator in a dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia over the latter’s name, is due in Athens on Wednesday for talks with Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos.
Ministry sources said that Athens will not accept as an official name a composite term without a geographical qualifier.
Nimetz, who will travel on to Skopje, is said to be buoyed by a European Council decision last month concluding that the name spat should be resolved before Skopje can start EU accession talks.
